You’ve been here before …

In the in between of that clarity of where you are going to go, but not stuck.  Stuck means you can’t move, and that’s not you.

You’re just not sure where to move to, and what steps to take to get there.

Wherever there is.

Feel familiar?

Think about sitting in an airplane seat looking out the window.  You can only see what is visible through the small window, assuming the wing isn’t in the way.  You can see the big picture … the fields, the cities, the expanse below beyond where you are heading.  There may be clouds or turbulence that hinder your view but it comes back.  You just might need to get closer.

I am about to get on a plane that will cross the Atlantic and take me places I have only dreamed of to this point.  My window will give me some views along the way but it is the destination I am looking forward to.

Where are you in the big picture of where you are going?

Are you looking forward but not sure what to focus in on, or how to clarify your big picture?

You’re not alone.  Clarity is one of the most sought after stages.

When you’re not sure what to do next, clarity seems like a landscape you aren’t sure how to focus on.

Clarity gives the confidence to move forward because you know where you are headed.

Clarity helps you start moving because you know the destination.

Clarity enables you to move over and beyond the hurdles, detours and distractions because you know the path.

Clarity gives you a roadmap forward.

Here are 3 steps to discover clarity on where it is you want to go.

  1.  Core Values.  If you haven’t found your core values yet, take some time to identify them.  If you have identified them, reassess them and to discover if those are still the things that truly matter the most to you. Core values can shift and change as you shift and change, or time gives you the perspective to get a little tighter on describing what is most important to you.  The more specific you can be the clearer you can be on how you lean in.
  2. How do you want to be remembered?  I believe the best practice you can do to bring clarity into your life is to look at how you want to be remembered.  What do you want people to say about you, and how do you want them to remember you, 10, 20, 30 years from now?  Similar to knowing who you want to be, this step helps you know to show up now, decisions to make now, and steps to take forward that will get you to the person you want to be.  Hint:  You don’t have to be “her” before you act like “her”.  I watched a video this morning that talked about how we act now is practice for later (our habits now are practice for how we act later, etc.).  We want to be practicing who we want to be.  Let that sink in for a minute.
  3. What gets you excited, or angry?  If you want to move toward your personal purpose and passion, think about what lights you up.  What gets you out of bed (other than an amazing vacation you’ve been looking forward to)?  What do you find yourself doing without planning it because you just find yourself always in the spot to do it.  What lights your fire in defense?  What gets you so angry you want to do something to stop it?  Those two things can bring a clarity on your passion and purpose.  How you want to make a difference in your world.

Practice these three steps.

Review them.  Write them out.

Then watch and see if your yes or no matches up with the clarity of what you value at your core, how you want to be remembered, and the passion and purpose that gives you joy.

Your window will get bigger and your landscape smaller as you get closer to the clarity of how you want to live.

And you’ll begin to know …
