What frame are you using?
We all have a frame that determines how we show up in our lives.
Our frame is the box, or lens, that we view and then believe about what is going on around us. You could call it your filter. The beautiful, and yes sometimes a little awkward part, is that we all use a different frame.
Have you ever noticed that you can say something to two people at the same time, and one will laugh while the other may get offended. Or, two people can walk into a party and one will engage and take things lightly while the other one will read different things into people’s comments or looks and leave offended.
I have often had conversations with friends where they share a viewpoint, and I had to express that I just didn’t see what they were seeing.
Same situation … but different frame.
Our confidence fits within that frame. Whether we think we can, or can’t, is based on what frame we are looking through.
I speak often about reframing, or shifting the thoughts and language we use with ourselves.
If the frame in the picture above was moved to the left we would see some ground in the bottom of the frame with foggy waters above, if it moved to the right we would only see the foggy skies, and if it moved lower we would only see the coastal landscape. Move the frame, get a different picture.
The frame is the filter of what we see inside it.
So do you like where your frame is, or do you need to reframe, or shift the picture?
You want to start with the clarity of what you want to focus on and why. So much of how we view things comes from our past and what we have chosen to carry forward. The reality is that we can change the frame, or lens, we are using to make sure it is aligned with who we want to be or where we want to go.
Confidence comes from knowing that you can do it, even if it doesn’t look pretty. It’s one of the reasons lifelong learning and personal development is so important. The movement of growth builds your confidence.
When we are super clear on who we were made to be and the potential we have been gifted with, we have the confidence to take the next step. As we take the next step, and then the next, our confidence grows.
And the frame gets bigger.
We begin to see the coastal landscape, ocean water, and foggy skies.
Next, you want to make sure you are looking at the right picture. Simply shifting the frame can give you a completely different picture, perspective, and story.
Confidence is built from focus on who you want to be and taking the steps to live in alignment with that. Pictures of treasured people and memories in your life are perfect examples of this. You frame them and put them up where you can see them, so you remember what they mean to you.
Vision Boards can also keep you focused on what is most important and frame who you want to be and how you want to show up. The pictures in the frame connect with your emotions of your why and help you stay on track, It’s the picture in the frame that gives you the confidence to keep going.
