It was years ago that I first heard about the incredible purpose in how an eagle was designed.

I had the privilege of listening to one of my favourite speakers. She shared how she had spoken to a group of ladies off the coast of Alaska, where eagles were flying past the high windows of the venue as she spoke.  It intrigued her, so she began to look into the facts about eagles. As she shared those amazing facts with us I was hooked right away, and the eagle has been a source of inspiration and motivation for me ever since.

You see, this was at a time when I was running from here to there, getting everyone to where they needed to go and responding to what came at me that day.  There was no plan, or if there was, it quickly changed and was interrupted.  You see, I was trying to keep a lid on things and stop everything from exploding.  If I kept the lid on well one day, I could move on to the next day.  There were so many unknowns in my life that a plan was impossible to keep.  I had two young kids, an amazing support team of friends and family, but a lot of questions as to what really was going on with my husband and our marriage.  Every time I could sort out one issue, three more came at me, and I soon lost track of all the questions and unknowns I was trying to track. I don’t think even a private investigator would have been able to keep track of the mysterious activity … believe me, I thought about it.

My favourite bible verse at the time was Isaiah 40:31 – I was so wanting new strength and to not be weary anymore that this verse really spoke to me and encouraged me.

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

When the speaker started sharing some of the details of the eagle’s design and purpose, I was intrigued and inspired.

The eagle’s design and symbolism inspire me and remind me that I am also made and designed with purpose, and for a purpose.

The eagle itself is symbolic of discovering, igniting, or renewing purpose in your life.  It has incredible clarity, strength, and the essence of a warrior.  I love that word, warrior.  It makes me think of fearlessness and focused strength.  I want to be my best warrior.

The clarity of the “eagle eye vision” speaks to its amazing view and the advantage of its panoramic view.  We so often look at the small picture that is right in front of us, but the eagle sees the big picture and waits with patience.  It does not flap its wings but waits until it catches a wind current, and then soars.  Have you ever felt like you were flapping your wings? I sure have! When I heard that, I thought, “that’s what I want to do … soar, and stop flapping!”.

The eagle symbolizes the pursuit and motivation of going after your dreams and goals, with no apologies.  It goes after it’s prey with swiftness, after patiently watching and lining itself up well. It has the patience to wait for the wind current, and it is one of the most loyal birds, as it mates for life.

The spirit of an eagle is a beautiful symbol for us as it plans and has a purpose in all that it does.  Its design and action speaks of confidence and authority.  It doesn’t ask “what if” but is swift in its execution.  It plans well, reigns the skies as a champion and warrior, and then fulfils its purpose with intention and action.

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

If we don’t know how we are made and our unique purpose, then we can not live from it. Knowing who we were made to be, our design, gives us the clarity, confidence, and passion to live as a warrior that lives their full potential.

Just like the eagle; Identify your purpose, catch the current of your passion, and confidently soar as you live it out in action.
