As I read this morning I came across three powerful words.
Do Your Best.
Simple. But is it?
If it is so simple why do we find it so hard to do consistently?
Why do we struggle to know what our best is?
Why do we seem to be so complacent without doing our best?
Why do we often find it easier to support someone else, or just go with the flow? Or to try and control, making everyone do what we feel is best?
Do you want to live authentically?
Do you want to live an attitude of gratitude?
Do you want to live with influence?
We are called to live our best version of who we were made to be. No one else.
To live our best, we need to be intentional and purposeful.
How do we do that?
Here are a few tips on how to do your best:
- Know who you were made to be. Your why. Your unique life purpose. Until you clarify your why, you don’t know what your how or what will be. Clarity gives confidence to be your best.
- Make a choice. To be our best we need to choose. Choose to live a life of authentic purpose. Choose to do the work to identify and then choose to show up and put action to your purpose.
- Live with intention. It is not sufficient to have “good intentions”, you must prepare, plan and execute the action.
- Take a step. Any step forward. There is no right or wrong step … just take the next step. As you keep on keeping on you will get more clarity on which steps to take. To do your best you have to be moving.
Michael Jordan – “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
- Show up. Sometimes doing your best means just showing up. Every morning, show up and take the brave and bold steps to keep doing the next thing in the best way you know how, using your clarity, choices, and confidence.
- Be aware. Know the influence you have, and on whom. Know the legacy you want to leave, the tidal wave you want to start. To be aware, we are back to the first tip … Know who you were made to be.
